1. What's the name of your band? What's the origin of that name?
A War Within. It was after a couple of days just trying to figure out a name that wasn’t taken that still meant something to us.
2. What are your names, nicknames and corresponding instruments?
Spencer “Spence” - Vocals
Roy “PG-13” “Goldenfucher” - Drums
Dustin “Justin” - Guitar
Kyle “Lyle” - Guitar
3. If you could fill a pool with anything but water, what would it be?
Sweet sweet pudding, Ice Cream, and Alcohol. It’s gonna be a sick, weird, and probably dangerous time. Might be the next video release straight to PornHub.
4. What’s an average day like for the band?
Right now, even in quarantine, we’ve still filmed quite a few videos and have been prepping the singles for release. In addition we also have been working on connecting with fans, Improving our own marketing skills, and have been planning and working hard on new music. This will include more releases through tracking in our own studio, along with improving mixing/production skills.
5. Where/When was your last show, when/where is your next show?
Feb 2020 Naperville IL. The 105. Sold out show in west Chicago thanks to some awesome bands and people who put it together.
Sept 2020 Blue Ridge Rock Fest VA. Hoping this show will stay on it’s timeline since we haven’t played a show from the start of the quarantine and would love to get back to it. This Fest would be during our 4th studio album release tour.
6. What are some of the best pranks you as bandmates have pulled on each other?
We mess with each other a lot but the one recurring thing we do is the Circle Game. From music video shoots, behind the scenes, snaps, IG stories, shows, pretty much any instance we can get eyes on one of our hands making a circle is a good time. There is supposed to be a punch that follows but we don’t care about that. It’s more just personal humiliation.
7. How has your music evolved since you first began playing together?
From each album this band has changed and evolved. We’ve been trying different things we enjoy and other things we just really want to try. I think this current album we’ve put together will be the best culmination of songs we’ve ever written. I’m very excited for it to be released.
8. What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite?
I love making music, playing music and meeting others who love music just as much as myself. It’s always a lot more work to achieve some goals and tasks than it looks. I know watching the successes of other bands is inspiring but at the same time I know that to achieve this they’ve spent countless hours planning, executing and following through on most activities. This includes the amount of work and hours involved to pay for these things or pay bills as well because sometimes bands aren’t making money off of doing this.
9. If you were a superhero, what would your power be?
I think my super power would be to not worry about what’s to come and just enjoy the moment to the full extent. I’ve spent so much time in my life searching for answers I’ll probably never learn. Almost an ability to predict the future in order to achieve my goals that I have set for myself. It’s been the biggest struggle to not know if I’m living my life the way I want to get where I need to go or if I’m just convincing myself I am.
10. What advice do you have for people who want to form their own bands?
Make sure that you have a good group of people dedicated to not just say they’re looking to make music for a living but act on it. A few like minded individuals can go a much further than a larger group of people with different values, opinions and goals. The other piece of advice is that if you don’t have that yet don’t be afraid to step up and do it yourself. There will be a lot of tests where you think you can’t complete a task ahead of you that requires only yourself to complete. MAKE THAT FIRST STEP. Get in there and go get it. No one is going to give you anything in life and especially in this business. You gotta work hard and get it yourself, your way.
11. Who are some of your favorite musicians?
I think the artists that have motivated me the most have been Linkin Park, Blink 182 just to get my to love music. I’ve grown an appreciation for bands out there who work super hard that I’ve toured with or just seen the sheer will-power of grind dedicated to their art.
12. What is the craziest thing you've ever received from a fan?
I think this varies from person to person but the craziest is the amount of distance or dedication that a fan can have for you. The best example for me is to have a person drive hours to come see us play when it’s usually the other way around. It’s amazing the love we share as music lovers and those are the fans that are the craziest but are also the best at the same time.
13. What song means the most to you and why?
It’s hard to pick just one right now. This entire 4th album has a theme that I’ve had and every lyric has revolved around. I’ve really dug deep into my life and made sure I’ve said what I need to say right now. So when I do look back I can be proud that I’ve come so far and not quit. Each day we live our lives we face a decision between life and death. I want it to be motivation for when I final start writing the 5th album. I hope that it’s not only motivation for myself but for anyone willing to take a chance and listen. For they could be standing on the edge of that decision, much like we all have to and be failing to come up with an answer.
14. How can people gain access to your music?
15. If you had one thing to say to all your fans, what would it be?
I would say thank you for giving us the time. Thank you for being so supportive in a world that isn’t always as supportive. Thank you for becoming friends when I really needed it. I hope that one day, if I haven’t already, can pay back the kindness you have given me. I owe you guys so much more than I have already given you. I promise that I will not quit so that we can share many more memories and good times together. You mean the world to me.
