1. What's the name of your band? What's the origin of that name?

-RAINS

-When I was starting the project and trying to come up with a name I wanted something simple. Something short and to the point. After considering about 450 other names I decided my last name made the most sense. Plus it was easy for me to remember. Lol.

2. What are your names, nicknames and corresponding instruments?

Jeff Rains - All Instruments and Vocals

3. If you could fill a pool with anything but water, what would it be?

Orange Juice. Shit’s delicious.

4. What’s an average day like for the band?

It depends on whether I’m in the studio or on tour. I do all of the writing and recording in the studio, and then when I tour/play live I hire other musicians to tour with me and I sing and play guitar. A normal touring day consists of me waking up early and doing in studios at radio stations and usually a couple TV stations, then I’ll spend the day doing various interviews for upcoming shows. We’ll do soundcheck at some point, a meet and greet at some point, and then finally get to play the actual show

5. Where/When was your last show, when/where is your next show?

The last tour I did was with Five Finger Death Punch a few years ago. I went through a divorce a few months after that tour and decided to come off the road and take a break from music until the divorce situation got worked out, and once that was done I went back in the studio and started the new album. I had festivals scheduled for this summer but unfortunately those have all been canceled for the foreseeable future as well as any touring plans.

6. What are some of the best pranks you as band mates have pulled on each other?

My favorite one was our bus driver on one tour asked my guitar player if he wanted to drive the bus for a minute. The guitarist had never driven a bus before but we were going down a straight flat highway and there was zero traffic so he reluctantly agreed. We were going 70 mph down the interstate and no one else knew what had happened and all of the sudden the bus drivers comes strolling through the bus and just says “Hey guys” and keeps walking to the back of the bus. Everyone said “Hey!” And then about one second later

you started hearing each musician and crew member scream and freak the fuck out because they realized the bus driver wasn’t driving the damn bus, It was pretty fantastic.

7. How has your music evolved since you first began playing together?

When I first started the band my brother was playing drums and it was really cool to see us go from little kids playing in our bedroom to our first show at some tiny coffee shop (which was terrible btw) and then keep seeing it grow from there. From a random show here and there to our first tour to being on the radio for the first time and so on. It was a pretty amazing thing to experience together. He decided to stop touring right before things REALLY took off, but it was still awesome to be able to do what we did together.

8. What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite?

For me music is like breathing is to a normal person. It’s not a choice, it’s a necessity and that’s exactly what music is for me. My perspective on it has changed substantially over the years and my appreciation for certain aspects has changed dramatically over the years too. The past couple years I’ve been realizing how much of a gift it actually is to, 1: even have the ability to create music that’s goo enough to be on the radio and

reach the masses, and, 2: to realize how much of a gift it is for music listeners around the world to give me the opportunity to present my art to them. When you’re writing these songs you don’t really think about(or at least I didn’t think about) the fact that the words you’re writing can truly impact someones life clear across the world, but when you hear from some of these people and they talk about the difficult times the music you created has gotten them through its an extremely humbling and overwhelming thing. It’s a truly amazing thing and I’ll always be grateful for that opportunity.

9. If you were a superhero, what would your power be?

Flying. 100%

10. What advice do you have for people who want to form their own bands?

LEARN. THE. BUSINESS.

Learn the business and run it like a business. Look at it like a brand just like you look at Nike like a brand. The first step is creating great music, but great music doesn’t do anything if you don’t know how to expose it to the world the proper way. It’s a brutal business with way more snakes than honest people so make sure you know your shit

11. Who are some of your favorite musicians?

Old school country like Garth Brooks and Brooks an Dunn and that whole era, 60’s and 70’s rock has always been a huge one for me, but the biggest influence I’ve always had has been the Seattle music scene. Alice In Chains and Soundgarden and Pearl Jam and etc.

12. What is the craziest thing you've ever received from a fan?

A homemade music video to my song “Five Minutes” about a girl giving herself an abortion with a coat hanger in the shower. Complete with actors and blood and…….Yeah it was fucked up.

13. What song of yours means the most to you and why?

From another artist or one of mine? From another artist would be “In The Air Tonight” by Phil Collins. I think it’s the most perfectly crafted song ever written.

From myself…….I’m not sure if I can answer that. Each song represents a very significant moment or event in my life so each one has a pretty intense amount of meaning to me in different ways.
